Before being used in educational settings, cadavers must be adequately preserved. Cadaver preservation is about keeping them away from danger, ruin, or decay. To protect the cadavers, they are treated with special chemicals. Embalming chemicals are a range of additives, disinfecting agents, and antiseptics used in advanced embalming to prevent decomposition and retain a body’s natural appearance. Embalming fluid is injected into the arteries of the dead to embalm them. Other bodily fluids may be drained or aspirated and replaced with the embalming fluid.
For tissue maintenance, we have products and solutions related to anatomical fluid; Genelyn Australia has four principal products specific to the anatomical field. The following are the guideline for these products with brief descriptions.
– Anatomical series embalming fluid. Simply as implied, these are our embalming fluids designed for arterial injection. The protocol under which these are created is for dry storage instead of wet storage tanks, which become redundant.
– Hydro. This, when diluted, is applied as a spray to specimens to prevent dehydration.
– Unigram. This is a wash-down product for both specimens as well as hard surfaces. It contains an anti-molding agent, though it ceases to provide further action if rinsed off.
– Morspray. This is a disinfectant spray that has a high level of anti-molding protection. It is designed to be sprayed onto surfaces and left to dry. The anti-molding agents are phenolic salt derivatives rather than pure phenol.
